Night curfew was lifted and mobile internet service restored in Morbi but Army continued to remain deployed in the town as life limped back to normalcy on Monday. "As there was no untoward incident from any parts of the town during the previous two days, we decided to lift the night curfew on Sunday. The situation is normal now and therefore, mobile internet service was restored on Monday evening," Rajan Sushra, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Morbi told The Indian Express. Curfew was clamped in Morbi on August 26 and mobile internet service suspended after violent mobs indulged in arson and vadalism following police crackdown on a Patidar rally in Ahmedabad to demand OBC status and reservation for community on August 25. [related-post] Rioters attacked police, burnt down scores of state transport buses and set offices of local BJP MLA Kanti Amrutiya and Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Mohan Kundariya. Office of Morbi circle police inspector and a police post of of B Division police was also set ablaze. "We are doing intense patrolling in areas like Mahendranagar, Sanala Road, Bus Stand Road from where violence was reported the most. One company each of Border Security Force (BSF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) and two companies of State Reserve Police (SRP) continue to remain deployed and are helping local police to keep the situation normal," Sushra further said. The SP added that 17 FIRs had been filed in various police stations of the district in connection with the violence. "Our top priority is maintaining law and order and restoring peace. Therefore, no arrest or detentions has been made so far," added Sushra. Morbi is dominated by Kadva Patels and had witnessed most violence in Saurashtra. It was the only town in the region where curfew had be imposed. But SP said that even after lifting of the curfew, prohibitory orders, banning assembly of more than three person without prior person, continued to remain in force.
