Gujarat, Rajasthan Election Results 2024 Highlights: Congress opens account in Gujarat after a decade; secures victory from Banaskantha seat

The BJP won eight Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan and is currently leading on 6 out of the 25 seats in the state.

Of the remaining seats, INDIA bloc partners Congress and CPI(M) won one seat each. While the Congress was ahead on seven seats, the BAP and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party were leading on one seat each.

Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil wins Navsari Lok Sabha seat by margin of 7.73 lakh votes

BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has won the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat of Gujarat by defeating his nearest Congress rival Sonal Patel by a margin of more than 7.44 lakh votes, announced the Election Commission of India.

According to the data shared by the Election Commission, the BJP has won 7 seats in Rajasthan, namely- Ajmer, Jaipur, Jalore and Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Bikaner and Jhalawar Baran. 

The Congress meanwhile has won from the Karauli-Dholpur constituency. 

According to the data shared by the Election Commission, the BJP has won 4 seats in Rajasthan, namely- Ajmer, Jaipur, Jalore and Rajsamand. 

The Congress is leading on 8 seats currently. 

After a decade-long hiatus, the Congress party has made a breakthrough in the Gujarat Lok Sabha Elections as Geniben Thakor, the party’s candidate from Banaskantha, secured victory by defeating her BJP counterpart Rekha Chaudhari, with a margin of over 30 thousand votes.

Union Minister Amit Shah leading by over 7 lakh votes in Gandhinagar constituency of Gujarat.

BJP's Mitesh Patel retains Anand Lok Sabha as counting concludes; wins by a margin of 91095 votes.

Congress' Amit Chavda polls 5,15,150 votes while Patel secured 6,06,245 votes

State Cabinet minister Kirodi Lal Meena confirmed that if the BJP loses any of the seven seats under his responsibility in Rajasthan, he will resign from his post.

Despite the BJP's historical dominance in the state's 25 Lok Sabha seats, current trends indicate a potential decrease of more than 10 seats for the party.

Meena's statement reiterates his commitment to step down as minister should the BJP face defeat in any of the seven seats he oversees.

BJP's sitting MP from Jamnagar, Poonam Maadam retains her seat by defeating her Congress challenger JP Maraviya. Maadam is leading by more than 2.36 lakh votes just 52,581 votes left to be tallied.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya wins from Porbandar Lok Saba seat by more than 3.78 lakh votes. He defeats former Congress MLA Lalit Vasoya

Union Minister Parshottam Rupala all but seals victory from Rajkot Lok Sabha seat. At the end of Round 16 of counting, Rupala is leading his Congress rival Paresh Dhanani by more than 4.33 lakh votes while only around 3.6 lakh votes are left to be tallied. 

Vinod Chavda of BJP retains Kutch Lok Sabha seat and completes a hat-trick of victories.

At the end of Round 14 of counting, Chavda secures 6.12 lakh votes while his Congress challenger Nites Lalan polls only 2.52 lakh votes. Thus Chavda is leading by more than 3.60 lakh votes whereas only 1.98 lakh votes are left to be tallied. 

On Bharuch seat Congress' Chaitar Vasava losses against BJP sitting MP Mansukh Vasava with a margin of over 93,000 votes.

The Congress party also concedes defeat in Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency. 

BJP’s Manju Sharma has won the Jaipur seat from Rajasthan. She was fighting against Pratap Singh Kachariyawas of the Congress.

Speaking to the Indian Express about the ongoing counting, Bharuch Lok Sabha INDIA bloc candidate, Chaitar Vasava, said, "At the end of 16 round, BJP's Mansukh Vasava has a lead... But seven rounds are yet to go and we are waiting for the final result. Either we will win or we will learn... It is our big victory that the India Alliance got together and put up such a good performance. The BJP was talking about a lead of five lakh votes but we have worked hard and the people have voted for us such that (the lead of the BJP) has been slowed down. I am a young leader and I will continue to work for the people and learn, regardless of the result today."

According to the data released by the Election Commission, the Congress is currently leading in 8 out of 25 seats in Rajasthan namely - Barmer, Bharatpur, Churu, Dausa, Ganganagar, Jhunjunu and Karauli-Dholpur and Tonk-Sawai Madhopur

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) sprung a surprise in Rajasthan, with its candidate from Sikar, Amra Ram, leading by more than 56,608 votes over BJP's Sumedhanand Saraswati.

In Ajmer, BJP's Bhagirath Chowdhary is leading by a margin of 3,20,657 votes. He is up against  Ramachandra Chowdhary of the Congress. 

BJP's Mansukh Vasava was leading in the Bharuch seat with a margin of 1,01,002 votes from AAP's Chaitar Vasava. 

Assembly by-polls: Arjun Modhwadia wins by-election to Porbandar Assembly seat. A veteran Congress leader, Modhwadia had defected to BJP in March this year and resigned as MLA, warranting the bypolls.

In Rajasthan's Jaipur BJP's Manju Sharma is ahead by a record 3,02,496 votes. She is up against Pratap Singh Kachariyawas of the Indian National Congress. 

After 13 rounds of counting Gujarat, the BJP is leading from 23 seats and the Congress is leading from 2 seats. The BJP has already won Surat unopposed as the Congress candidate's nomination form got rejected, while other contenders withdrew from the race. 

Congress' Geniben Nagaji Thakor is leading from Banaskantha constituency by 155 votes, while Chandanji Talaji Thakor is leading from Patan by 2,124.

At the end of 13 Rounds of voting, BJP's six-term MP Mansukh Vasava leads in Bharuch seat by 62,025 votes against INDIA bloc candidate Chaitar Vasava.

Congress is heading towards a big win in Dausa. Party candidate Murali Lal Meena is ahead of BJP's candidate Kanhaiya Lal Meena by 1,52,629 votes. 

Ummeda Ram Beniwal from the Congress party is leading from Barmer constituency in Rajasthan. He is up against Union minister and BJp leader Kailash Chaudhary. The vote difference between them is 39,318. 

Parshottam Rupala now leading Paresh Dhanani by more than 2.36 lakh votes. During the campaign, the BJP faced backlash from the Kshatriya community over a remark by Rupala in Rajkot.

Rupala, who hails from the Kadva Patel sub-caste group of the Patidar community, kicked off a row by remarking at a gathering of Dalits on March 23 that “raja-maharajas” (kings) bowed down after being persecuted by foreign rulers, including the British, and that the former sought friendly ties with the latter by breaking bread with them and marrying off their daughters to them.

Kshatriyas termed these remarks as an affront to their community’s pride and an insult to their women. Though Rupala apologised within hours by releasing a video statement and then publicly at a meeting of Kshatriya leaders in Gondal, the protests continued.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah contesting on Gandhinagar seat is leading with the highest margin of over 2.8 lakh votes in Gujarat

According to the ECI, Om Birla is leading in the Kota Bundi seat with a margin of 2,096 votes. 

Kota, one of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Rajasthan, is recognized as a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The constituency is currently composed of eight Vidhan Sabha segments. Prahlad Gunjal from the Congress is fighting for the Kota constituency.

In Rajasthan, two women were leading with the highest margins. BJP’s Manju Sharma is leading with a margin of 1.2 lakh votes against Congress’s Pratap Singh Khachariyawas in Jaipur. In Rajsamand, BJP’s Mahima Kumari is leading against Congress’s Damodar Gurjar with the second highest margin of over 96,000 votes.

According to the latest Election Commission trends, thirteen BJP candidates in Rajasthan, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and union ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Bhupendra Yadav, are leading, while the Congress is ahead in nine seats.

Parties from the INDIA bloc, including CPI (M), RLP, and BAP supported by the Congress, are leading in one seat each.

According to the ECI, Om Birla is leading in the Kota Bundi seat with a margin of 2,096 votes, Arjun Ram Meghwal in Bikaner with a margin of 1,277 votes, and Bhupendra Yadav in Alwar by 4,490 votes.

Other BJP candidates leading in various constituencies include those in Jaipur, Tonk-Sawaimadhopur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur, Jalore, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, and Jhalawar-Baran.

As per early trends, the BJP leads in 22 Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress leads in three seats in Gujarat, according to an election official on Tuesday. The Election Commission of India (ECI) data confirms the BJP's lead in 22 seats and the Congress' lead in three seats.

BJP leader Amit Shah is ahead in the Gandhinagar seat, with Mansukh Mandaviya leading in Porbandar. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Geniben Thakor is leading in Banaskantha, surpassing her BJP rival Rekha Chaudhary. Additionally, in Sabarkantha, Congress candidate and tribal leader Tushar Chaudhary is leading in early trends.

The Congress party had allied on three seats in Rajasthan, out of total 25, and as per early trends, is leading in all three: Rashtriya Loktantrik Party's Hanuman Beniwal in Nagaur, Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s Amra Ram in Sikar, and Bharat Adivasi Party's (BAP) Raj Kumar Roat in Banswara

Union Minister Parshottam Rupala's lead over his Congress rival Paresh Dhanani n Rajkot Lok Sabha surges to 81,126 votes at the end of Round 3. 

The constituency has been dominating the political discourse this poll season. The BJP has fielded Union Minister Parshottam Rupala as its candidate even as he is a native of Amreli. Dubbed as “insulting”, Rupala’s statement at an event of Dalit community on March 22 angered the Kshatriya community ahead of the polls.

BJP candidates lead on the assembly seats of Porbandar (Arjun Modhwadia), Khambhat ( Chirag Patel) and Vijapur ( CJ Chavda) in the by polls held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections . They were elected as Congress MLAs in 2022, quit to join the BJP and are contesting on its tickets

Union Minister Parshottam Rupala leading by 54,172 votes in Rajkot Lok Sabha seat at the end of Round 2 of counting

As per early trends, the Congress party is leading on about half a dozen of Rajasthan’s 25 seats. The party is set to end its ten-year dry run in the state.

In Churu, Congress’s Rahul Kaswan was leading against Devendra Jhahariya of BJP. In Nagaur, INDI Alliance’s Hanuman Beniwal was leading against Jyoti Mirdha. Interestingly, both Kaswan and Beniwal had contested as the ruling party's candidates in 2019 and won.
In Barmer, Congress’s Ummeda Ram Beniwal had a lead against independent Ravindra Bhati and union minister Kailash Choudhary. Barmer had witnessed one of the stiffest contests in the state, with the first-time independent MLA Bhati hoping to upset the two national parties.

In Banswara, Bharat Adivasi Party’s Raj Kumar Roat was leading against Congress turncoat – BJP candidate Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya. Here, Congress had extended support to BAP but its candidate Arvind Damor had refused to withdraw his candidature.
In Jhunjhunu, BJP’s Shubhkaran Choudhary is trailing behind Brijendra Ola of Congress. Ola, a former minster in Rajasthan government, is the son of former union minister Sis Ram Ola.

In the Valsad seat, BJP's Dhaval Patel is leading with 100,000 votes, while Congress' Anant Patel is trailing with 50,000 votes. In Dadra and Nagar Haveli, BJP's Kalaben Delkar has garnered 6,699 votes, while Congress' Ajit Mahala trails behind with 747 votes.

In Banaskantha, Congress candidate Geniben Thakor is leading with 3315 votes. 47 year old Geniben Thakor, the two-time Congress MLA contested her first Lok Sabha Polls. Vav, from where Thakor has been elected as an MLA, is the largest Assembly seat in terms of voter count as well as the area spread over a 100-km radius with over 3.2 lakh voters. In 2017, she defeated the current Gujarat Sabha Speaker Shankar Chaudhary with a margin of over 6,600 votes.

BJP's Rekhaben Chaudhary (44)  although a first-timer is no stranger to politics. Her grandfather Galbabhai Patel was the founder of Banas Dairy, now the largest in the Amul milk co-operative conglomerate. 

Banaskantha is the only Lok Sabha constituency among the 26 in Gujarat where the Congress and the BJP have pitted two women against each other. The district has a sizeable population of Chaudhary or Anjana Patel that constitutes nearly 13 per cent of the total votes in the constituency — only second to Thakor votes that are around 18 per cent.

On Bharuch seat after first round  BJP sitting MP Mansukh Vasava got 8,648 votes, AAP's Chaitar Vasava got 4446 votes

In Jamnagar and Junagadh, Congress candidates JP Maraviya and Hirabhai Jotva  leading by 2857 and 6645 votes respectively, after an hour of counting. These seats, especially Jamnagar saw a huge impact of the Rajput-Kshatriya protests. 

BJP candidates on these seats are sitting MPs Poonam Maadam (Jamnagar) and Rajesh Chudasama (Junagadh)

In Round 1 of the election in Anand Lok Sabha constituency, Congress' Amit Chavda is leading by 769 votes against the incumbent BJP MP Mitesh Patel, who is seeking a second term. The constituency, with approximately 60% Kshatriya voters, witnessed agitation from the Kshatriya community during the campaign period.

Union minister for Fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying Parshottam Rupala whose comment on 'maharajas' sparked off an agitation among Rajputs and Kshatriyas in Gujarat, arrives at the counting centre in Rajkot on Tuesday, where he is the BJP candidate. Rupala who belongs to Amreli is contesting against another Amreli native and Congress's former leader of opposition in the Gujarat Assembly Paresh Dhanani.

The Kshatriyas had led a campaign calling for a "boycott" of Rupala, mobilizing the community across Gujarat through a Kshatriya Asmita Rath.

A day after polling in Gujarat on May 7, Rupala had said the Lok Sabha election was "the toughest phase in his 40-year political career".

Rupala, who is from the Kadva sub-group of Patidars, is being challenged by Dhanani who is from the Leuva sub-group of the Patidars, in Rajkot constituency considered a BJP bastion.

Gujarat voted in the 3rd phase on 25 of 26 seats with one seat, that of Surat where the BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal was declared elected uncontested. This is the only seat among the 543 in the country where the results were declared before polling.

Congress's Geniben Thakor (Banaskantha), Tushar Chaudhary (Sabarkantha) and Chandanji Thakor (Patan) are currently leading in Gujarat.

These are initial trends given by India Today. There are a total of 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan. 

The BJP is currently leading from 11 seats in Gujarat and the INDIA alliance is leading from 2 seats, according to initial polling trends given out by NDTV.

The BJP is currently leading from 10 seats in Rajasthan and the INDIA alliance is leading from 5 seats, according to initial polling trends given out by NDTV.

Initial polling trends suggest that the BJP is leading in 4 out of the 25 seats in Rajasthan, according to the NDTV. 

While the BJP has already has opened its account in Gujarat by winning the Surat seat unopposed, initial polling trends suggest the saffron party is leading in one out of the remaining 25 seats, according to the NDTV. 

The counting of votes has begun for the Lok Sabha Elections in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

“The results today will lay the foundation of strong and ‘Viksit Bharat’. The public of Bikaner is going to give its blessings to BJP,” said Union Minister and BJP candidate from Bikaner Lok Sabha seat Arjun Ram Meghwal. 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections, Arjun Ram Meghwal of BJP won this seat, defeating Madan Gopal Meghwal of INC by a margin of 2,64,081 votes.

Informing about the security arrangements ahead of counting for the Gujarat Lok Sabha Elections, JCP Ahmedabad Neeraj Kumar today said that more than 1,200 officers and staff have been deployed with three-layered security at counting centres of East and West The area is under CCTV surveillance, proper frisking and checking is being done and no one is allowed to carry mobile phones,"  he said.

Candidates from East Ahmedabad:  Hasmukhbhai Patel (BJP) and Himmatsinh Prahladsinh Patel (Congress).

Candidates from West Ahmedabad: Dineshbhai Makwana (BJP) and Bharat Yogendra Makwana (Congress).

Gujarat: The strong room in Anand district is being opened ahead of the vote counting for the Lok Sabha Election s2024, which will begin at 8 am.
