Four of family die of suspected food poisoning in Rajouri

Four members of a family including three minors died due to suspected food poisoning in a remote Badhal Gorla village in border Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

Identifying the deceased as Fazal Hussain and his three children, Rabia Kousar, 15, Karmana Kouser, 12 and Rafter Ahmad, 4, sources said that they were among five people admitted in Rajouri Medical College Hospital on Saturday with complaints of severe dyspepsia. The other two included Fazal Hussain’s wife Shamim Akhter, 38, and his other daughter Ruksar, 12.

As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to Government Medical College Hospital at Jammu for specialised treatment, sources said.

One of them died in Rajouri, the other three breathed their last in Jammu, sources said.

While Shamim Akhter and her daughter Ruksar are undergoing treatment, police have registered a case and started inquest proceedings to ascertain the cause of death of Fazal Hussain and his three children, said a senior official in the Rajouri district administration.
