In a sharp attack on the electoral system, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that the “the election system in India is already dead”, while alleging that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were rigged to deliver the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a narrow majority.

Speaking at the Congress Party’s Annual Legal Conclave in New Delhi, Rahul claimed that the party would soon release evidence to back its assertion that the polls were manipulated.

During the event, he said, “We are going to prove to you in the coming few days how a Lok Sabha election can be rigged and was rigged.” He said that BJP won the last general elections with a very slim majority.

“The truth is that the election system in India is already dead. The Prime Minister of India is the Prime Minister of India with a very slim majority… If 15 seats were rigged, he would not have been the Prime Minister of India,” the Lok Sabha LoP said.

While addressing party leaders at the Congress Annual Legal Conclave 2025, Gandhi alleged that former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was sent to “threaten” him when his party was fighting against the three farm laws, now repealed.

“I remember when I was fighting the farm laws, Arun Jaitley ji was sent to me to threaten me. He told me “if you carry on opposing the govt, fighting the farm laws, we will have to act against you”. I looked at him and said ‘I don’t think you have an idea who you are talking to,'” he said.

Earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi told reporters in the Parliament complex that the Congress party had uncovered an “atom bomb” of evidence, proving that the voter lists have been manipulated at the large scale.

“We dug deep because the Election Commission wasn’t helping. What we found is an atom bomb. When it explodes, you won’t be able to see the Election Commission in India,” Gandhi said.

Gandhi said, “There was a suspicion in the elections in Madhya Pradesh and the Lok Sabha, and it deepened in the Maharashtra assembly polls. At the state level, we believed there was a vote theft.”
