(Credit: Pexels/Representative)Days after announcing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 12 states and Union Territories, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Wednesday that it had activated the National Voter Helpline and 36 State and District-level helplines to address queries and grievances of citizens.
According to the latest SIR guidelines, 51 crore registered electors will need to submit enumeration forms by December 4 to remain on the draft roll.
In a statement, the poll body said that the National Contact Centre (NCC) will act as the central helpline for all states and Union Territories and operate daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The toll-free voter helpline number is 1800-11-1950. Calls made to the voter helpline will be handled by “trained executives who assist citizens and other stakeholders with electoral services and queries,” the statement added.
The EC also instructed state and UTs and districts to establish their own State Contact Centre (SCC) and District Contact Centre (DCC), respectively. This was required to ensure timely and localised responses. “These centres operate during office hours on all working days throughout the year, providing assistance in the regional languages of the State/UT,” it said.
All complaints and queries will be recorded and tracked through the National Grievance Service Portal. Additionally, ECI has also launched ‘Book-a-Call with BLO’ facility which allows citizens to directly contact their respective Booth Level Officer (BLO) through the feature available on the ECINET platform.
Citizens can also connect with Election Officials using the ECINet App. ECI has directed Chief Electoral Officers, District Electoral Officers and Electoral Registration Officers to “regularly monitor the progress and ensure speedy disposal of the requests of the users within 48 hours”.
The poll body underlined that these facilities are in addition to the existing mechanisms for addressing election-related grievances.
