On Eid ul-Adha, PM Modi, President Murmu, Rahul Gandhi send out wishes: ‘reminds us of value of sacrifice’

On the occasion of Eid ul-Adha, leaders across party lines wished the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to his counterparts in Kuwait and Bangladesh.

In a tweet, PM Modi said, “Greetings on Eid ul-Adha. May this day bring happiness and prosperity to everyone. May it also uphold the spirit of togetherness and harmony in our society. Eid Mubarak!”

Extending his greeting to the Crown Prince, Prime Minister of Kuwait and citizens of the country, PM Modi said the day reminds people of the values of “sacrifice, compassion, and brotherhood, which are essential in building a peaceful and inclusive world that we all aspire for”.

“In his personal letter, the Prime Minister of India conveyed that the sacred festival of Eid Al Adha is celebrated by millions of muslims across the length and breadth of India. It reminds us of the values of sacrifice, compassion and brotherhood, which are essential in building a peaceful and inclusive world that we all aspire for,” a statement released by the Embassy of India in Kuwait said.

PM Modi also extended Eid al-Adha greetings to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, and expressed confidence that the “sacred festival” will bring the people of India and Bangladesh “even closer”.

“PM @narendramodi conveyed his warmest greetings to PM Sheikh Hasina and to the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the holy festival of Eid al-Adha. In his message, PM expressed confidence that the sacred festival will bring the people of India and Bangladesh even closer. @MEAIndia,” the High Commission of India in Bangladesh tweeted.

President Droupadi Murmu greeted citizens on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha and urged all to take a pledge to work towards spreading mutual brotherhood and harmony in the society.

“Eid-ul-Zuha is the holy festival of love, sacrifice and sacrifice. This festival inspires us to follow the path of renunciation and serve humanity selflessly,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi greeted the nation and said, “May this auspicious occasion bring peace, prosperity and happiness to all”.

Calling it a festival that “epitomises the noble values of sacrifice, trust and forgiveness”, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge extended his wishes and asked the country to “strengthen the bonds of fraternity and build a peaceful, harmonious and progressive society”.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinrayi Vijayan called for reflecting upon the “profound lessons” of the festival, which he said was the importance of selflessness and love. “Let’s embrace diversity and strengthen the bond of compassion in our communities,” he tweeted.

Visuals of the gatherings at mosques for Eid prayers surfaced on social media. Former union minister and BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi offered namaz at Panja Sharif Dargah.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called for “promoting unity and harmony” in India.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also shared his wishes on Twitter, he wrote, “Eid Mubarak! Warm greetings on Eid al-Adha. May the festival further the spirit of brotherhood and compassion.”

Delhi Lieutenant-Governor V K Saxena took to Twitter to greet the people on the occasion. “Hearty greetings to all of you on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha, the festival of sacrifice… May this festival bring happiness in your life, love in your hearts and peace in the country,” he tweeted.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also greeted people on the occasion. “Heartfelt greetings on Eid ul-Adha to all the people of the country. May this festival bring a lot of progress in your life, may you always be happy, healthy and prosperous,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted: “Greetings to the people on the holy festival of Eid-ul-Adha. The joyous occasion inspires each one of us to follow the path of love, compassion & forgiveness. May the festival of Eid-ul-Adha usher in peace, prosperity & happiness for all”.

The management committee of the Jamia Masjid on Wednesday said they were informed by the authorities that Eid prayers would not be allowed at Srinagar’s historic Eidgah. Muslims offer Eid prayers at Eidgah, but the government over the last many years has barred people from offering prayers there.

Eid ul-Adha is a sacred festival celebrated among Muslim community around the world. The festival marks Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to obey Allah’s command by being ready to sacrifice his son for the sake of God’s command. His gesture was loved by the almighty and he replaced his son Ismail with a goat.
