Marginal dip in 2nd cut-off list, low turnout at North Campus

Not many requests for cancellation of admission, wait begins for third list.

With a marginal dip in marks in the second cut-off list for admission to Delhi University,North Campus recorded a low turnout on Wednesday. There was no scramble for seats,no rush for cancelling admission in one college to move to another.

Many students have now pinned their hopes on a third list to get into courses, colleges of their choice.

Miranda House and Hans Raj were the exception on a day when not much was happening on the Campus — both colleges filled most seats in the general category and Miranda received 50 requests for cancellation of admission.

Sanskrit and Hindi remained the least popular courses. “We have over-admitted students in all courses except BA (Hons) Sanskrit and Hindi. For the same reason,we are not worried about the withdrawals,” said Pratibha Jolly, principal of Miranda House.

Hans Raj College principal V K Kawatra said all courses, barring Hindi and Sanskrit, were not likely to see a third cut-off list. The college has had 20 requests for cancellation of admission.

Spurred by colleges relaxing the cut-offs for the Other Backward Classes, the pace of quota admissions picked up on Wednesday.

“We have admitted 85 OBC students against 135 seats in B Com (Hons),and 17 against 33 seats in B A (Hons) Economics. We are anticipating more admissions tomorrow as students must have requested for admission cancellation elsewhere. They will be here in the coming days,” said P C Jain, principal of Shri Ram College of Commerce. SRCC has already closed admission for the general category.
