Intel launches Intel India embedded challenge contest 2011

The contest is for students,individuals and entrepreneurs from across the country.

Intel India has announced the second edition of the Intel India Embedded Challenge Contest,a contest for students,interested individuals and entrepreneurs from across the country.

The contest has been put forward to inspire the vast technically savvy community in India to architect,design and develop novel embedded applications in areas such as – consumer electronics,digital security surveillance,medical,storage & others.

The Intel India Embedded Challenge 2011 has two main categories:

* Embedded geeks category: It involves development of a prototype using Intel Atom Processor. Short-listed participants in this category will be given Intel Atom Kit and mentoring support for prototyping their innovation.

* Embedded solutions for social causes category: Involves making use of existing technologies to show service / usage models in wide range of application or service areas. This category is open to non-engineering segments also.

The contest details are available at http://www.intel.com/education/in. The short listed finalists of Embedded Geeks category will get a hardware platform based on Intel Atom free of cost by Intel. They can then continue to work on their prototype for the final contest. Intel India will also offer any guidance and help by assigning mentors for the projects. In Embedded Solutions for Social Causes category,the finalists will showcase successful usage / service models based on use of existing technology.

The deadline for submission of abstract in phase I is January 10 with results to be declared on January 30. Deadline for Submission of final abstracts by short listed teams February 28 with results on March 20. Finalists will receive the application reference designs kits on April 1st week,2011. The presentations to jury and award ceremony is scheduled for August 2011.

The prizes:

1. The grand prize:

* Rs 10 lakhs,which will be disbursed in installments as specified below:

– Rs 2 lakhs on or after the date of announcement of the winner.

– Rs 8 lakhs to be disbursed in installments as per the mutually agreed milestones for further development of the prototype or proof of concept as the case may be

2. Rs 50,000 cash prize for the seven best applications submitted in the contest

3. Gold medals from Intel for all finalists

4. Direct entry all winners to participate in The Next Big Idea – a Technology Entrepreneurship contest jointly conducted by Intel,Department of Science and Technology and Indian Institute of Management,Bangalore
