History of The World,published in 1634,oldest book on display

These include a Bhagwad Geeta booklet-composed of rice,Quran and Ramayana. The library also has a collection of 1,492 manuscripts in a number of languages including Arabic,Persian,Devnagri,Gurmukhi,Sanskrit and Sharda-which were commonly used during the 17th and 18th century.

The oldest manuscript in the library ‘Siraj-ul-Salikin’ dates back to 995 AD All these manuscripts were displayed at the two-day exhibition. The rare books displayed included ‘History of the World’ published by Adam Phillip,London — which is the oldest ‘rare book’ in A C Joshi library. It was published in 1634.

Visitors at the exhibition said that books displayed in the library ascertained that the British “not only ruled our country but also studied our culture deeply”. Many of the books displayed have been authored by the British writers.
