French varsities to hold road shows to woo Indian students

With an eye to attract increased number of Indian students to French universities,France is planning to hold road shows across the country.

With an eye to attract increased number of Indian students to French universities,France is planning to hold road shows across the country popularising the programmes and opportunities available there.

“We are planning to hold road shows,the details of which would be fixed,” said French Ambassador to India Jerome Bonnafont.

He said Indian students comprise less than one per cent of the total number of foreign students enrolled in French universities at present.

About 2.5 lakh foreign students are studying in French universities,of whom only about 2,000 are from India.

“We are targeting to increasing the number to 4,000 in the coming years,” the Ambassador said.

According to him,Indian students take up engineering and management programmes in varsities in his country apart from language and cultural programmes.

Bonnafont said state universities only charge administrative fee from students.

This year,more than 300 students are being supported by the French government through its various programmes and about 57 scholarships were awarded to students today at a programme sponsored by various French companies.

Orange Business Services gave away scholarships to 13 young engineering graduates who have chosen to pursue specialisation in IT network,telecommunication engineering etc.

Others who offered scholarships include BNP Paribas,Air Liquide,Thales among others.
