43 students detained for protesting against recruitment policy

BJP students' wing activists clashed with the police when they were being stopped from going towards the secretariat.

Police today detained 43 students and activists of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarathi Parishad (ABVP) as they were marching towards civil secretariat here to protest against the new recruitment policy.

The BJP students’ wing activists clashed with the police when they were being stopped from going towards the secretariat. Later,43 of them were detained and carried away in police vehicles.

They were protesting against the state government for its new recruitment policy under which a fresh recruit would get only 50 per cent of basic pay for first two years and 75 per cent for next three years without any allowances. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah,however,said the demand to re-examination of stipend-mode of recruitment was not one that could be considered.

“If Rehabar-e-Taleem (RET) and Rehebar-e-Ziraat (REZ) employment pattern,which also based on stipend-mode to salary,are right,this new policy is also right,and if those are wrong,then this is also wrong”,he told a press conference.

He said the aim of the new policy was to provide jobs to unemployed youth rather than freezing them and added that the state’s financial position was in distress due to implementation of the 6th pay commission recommendations.
