“In many spheres, particularly among the younger generations, there has been a complete shift from traditional media to digital media. In such a scenario, how do we perceive our role in traditional media? How do we adapt ourselves to this change? How do we manage this transition while ensuring the protection of employment opportunities related to the media industry?”the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting said in a video release during the 3rd DNPA Conclave.
Vaishnaw said there is also the need to consider how the importance of producers and content creators, and especially that of the content that goes through editorial checks before being published, receives due recognition.
“All these topics should be discussed in detail at this DNPA conference so that clear policy directions and policy recommendations emerge from this platform,” he told the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) conclave held Thursday.
Michael McNamara, member of the European Parliament, co-chair of the AI working group; and Brando Benifiei, member of European Parliament, Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, rapporteur of the AI Act are among those listed to address the conclave.
Government officials including S Krishnan, secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); Abhishek Singh, senior official, MeitY; and Sanjay Jaju, secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) are scheduled to speak on the Indian perspective on AI.
Industry leaders from major digital news platforms are taking part in the conclave that will feature discussions on how businesses can adapt to AI-led disruptions, optimise audience engagement, and ensure ethical usage of AI in the media sector.
