The Kerala government Monday alleged that Malayalam actor Dileep is attempting to create unsubstantiated counter-stories through lengthy cross examination of prosecution witnesses in order to undermine evidence in a case of alleged sexual assault on an actress.
Dileep is one of the accused in the case. The state said this in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court in response to the bail plea of Sunil N S alias Pulsar Suni, the main accused.
It said, “A mere perusal of the lengthy cross-examination, now exceeding 1,800 pages solely by A8 (Dileep)… reveals it is not related to facts in issue or relevant facts. A8 attempt appears to be to create unsubstantiated counter-stories through repeated lengthy suggestions, aiming to undermine prosecution evidence against him, both direct and circumstantial, presented before the trial court”.
The case is that in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy by Dileep, Sunil along with certain other accused, abducted and sexually assaulted the victim in a moving car. He has been in custody in connection with the case since February 23, 2017. Sunil approached the SC seeking bail after a trial court and HC refused to grant him any relief.
