Haryana officer suicide: What has happened so far in the Y Puran Kumar case

In the note, Puran Kumar named nine serving and one retired IPS officers and three retired IAS officers, including DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor and SP Narinder Bijarniya. He wrote that their actions had led him to take the extreme step.

A week after Y Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer and Additional Director General of Police, was found dead from a gunshot wound at his Chandigarh home, an assistant sub-inspector of police posted in Rohtak, Haryana, allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday (October 14). Sandeep Kumar, the deceased cop, left behind a four-page “final note” in which he levelled serious allegations of corruption against Y Puran Kumar.

In his eight-page “final note”, Puran Kumar, who belonged to a Scheduled Caste, had detailed serious allegations of institutional harassment, caste-based discrimination, and systemic neglect against several senior police and IAS officers over several years.
