Maximum of 80,000 pilgrims allowed per day at Sabarimala, online booking mandatory

With the two-month long Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season beginning November in Sabarimala, the Kerala government on Saturday informed that a maximum of 80,000 devotees will be allowed per day at the Lord Ayyappa shrine and that devotees would be permitted only through online booking this year.

The decisions were taken during an evaluation meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to take stock of the preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage season.

Further stating that necessary facilities would be provided for the devotees on the traditional forest path, the authorities said if vehicles needed to be regulated during peak times, necessary areas would be identified for parking and basic infrastructure would be provided there.

More parking facilities are being arranged at Nilakkal and Pampa this time, a CMO statement read.

Health check-ups and training will also be arranged for ‘Vishudhi Sena’ volunteers (cleanliness volunteers). The maintenance of the Sabari guest house in Sabarimala will soon be completed, and the renovation of the Pranavam guest house has already been finished, the statement added.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Devaswom Minister V N Vasavan and State Police Chief Sheikh Darvesh Sahib. Chief Secretary Sharada Muraleedharan, ADGPs Manoj Abraham, S. Sreejith, Devaswom Special Secretary T. V. Anupama, Pathanamthitta District Collector S. Prem Krishnan, Devaswom Board President P. S. Prashanth were also present at the meeting.
