Delhi Airport flight delay: More than 300 flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi have been delayed on Friday, running behind schedule by hours. Flight operations are disrupted due to a technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control System’s AMSS causing major delays and revised flight schedules.

As of now, Delhi Airport Authority has not provided any information on the revival of the system. Here’s what to do if your flight is delayed or cancelled.

  1. 01

    What's wrong at Delhi Airport?

There's an issue with the Automatic Message Switching System. The movement of aircraft during launch and landing hinges on this piece of software. It automatically exchanges real-time flight data, weather updates, route plans, and clearances between airports and aircraft. It also uses flight tracking systems to track flight movement and ensures aircraft do not have long waiting periods for landing and take-off.

My flight was cancelled. What can I do before reaching the airport?

ATC officials are manually preparing flight schedules using pre-existing data. As a result, several flights took off at least an hour later than scheduled, affecting the day's time-table.

You can check official X handles of Delhi Airport, Airport Authority of India and airlines for real-time updates and information on revised flight schedules.

What to do at the airport if flight is delayed?

Arrive a little earlier to avoid last-minute hassles: Since manual scheduling of flights is in place, flight timings are dynamic. Arriving 2–3 hours early can help to avoid last-minute confusion.

Contact airline counters or helplines: Speak directly with airline staff at the airport for rebooking, alternate flight options, or refunds as per your requirement.

Keep your boarding pass and payment proof: Boarding passes and payment proofs can be used to claim refunds or compensation later, as per DGCA’s passenger rights guidelines.

Can I get refund if my flight is cancelled?

Under DGCA guidelines, affected passengers can get a refund if the flight is delayed for more than 2 hours and in case of cancellations.

The airline is required to refund the ticket if you are not willing to travel on its alternative or subsequent flight or on another airline’s flight.

Your refund will be processed by the airline in accordance with CAR Section 3, Series M, Part II.

The airline is bound to provide you alternative travel opportunities at no additional cost, if you so desire.

If you have already reported at the airport to undertake a journey on the original flight and are waiting for the alternative flight, the airline is bound to provide you meals and refreshments.

Which documents are required to claim a refund from the airline?

If the delay is caused by a technical glitch and qualifies for a refund on cancellation of flight, keep these documents handy:

    • Flight booking ticket
    • Check in details (Web checkin pass)
    • Boarding Pass

Submit these documents on the official website of the airline at the earliest, ideally within 7 days of cancellation of flight to claim a refund.
