The 43-year-old woman died at Makanagudem village in Konaseema district on October 28 after a palmyra tree got uprooted and fell on her due to strong wind.

Cyclone Montha makes landfall: Cyclone Montha on Tuesday made landfall off the coast of Andhra Pradesh, causing disruptions in the southern state. The impact was also felt in the neighbouring Odisha, where normal life was affected in at least 15 districts. The landfall process started around 7 pm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, adding that the weather system in the Bay of Bengal will cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada.

No major impact of Cyclone Montha in Odisha, says CM Majhi: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday said Odisha escaped major damage from severe cyclonic storm Montha, which made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast around 7 pm, bringing relief to the state even as precautionary measures remained in force. Majhi, who reviewed the post-landfall situation at the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) control room here, said there were only reports of minor landslides and uprooting of trees in some areas.

Cyclone Montha Tracker LIVE Updates: Weakened Cyclone ‘Montha' to bring heavy rain in parts of Bengal

Cyclone ‘Montha', which has gradually weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area, will bring heavy rain in some districts of West Bengal till Saturday, the IMD said.

The weather system, which is situated over south Chhattisgarh, is likely to move northwards towards east Madhya Pradesh and weaken further, the India Meteorological Department said in a bulletin.

It is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rain (7-20 cm) at one or two places in the north Bengal districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar and 7-11 cm precipitation in Malda, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur on Friday, it said.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in Alipurduar and Coochbehar on Saturday.

The IMD warned that landslides may occur in the hilly areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, owing to the downpour.

Cyclone Montha Tracker LIVE Updates: Over 11,000 power staff deployed in Andhra during Cyclone Montha

Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K Vijayanand has said over 11,000 energy department employees of different positions were deployed during the severe cyclonic storm Montha to prevent interruptions to power supply and and work on power infrastructure impacted.

The chief secretary assured that 100 percent power supply will be restored on Thursday.

"Over 11,000 employees from various cadres were deployed to the affected areas under a well-coordinated plan to prevent interruptions to electricity supply," said Vijayanand in a press release issued on Wednesday.

In cases of obstacles to restoring power, alternative arrangements were made to ensure continuous supply to the public, he said.

According to the Chief Secretary, issues were reported at nine 220 kv substations, four 400 kv substations, and eleven 132 kv substations, and immediate action was taken to resolve all of them.

Heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana on Wednesday as severe cyclonic storm Montha, which made landfall in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district overnight, impacted the region. Districts including Warangal, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda, and Hyderabad witnessed heavy downpour, with Redlawada in Warangal recording 183 mm rainfall.

The IMD issued a red alert for Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Hanumakonda, warning of extremely heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds up to 50 kmph. Schools were shut in Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad districts. Nearly 500 students from a state-run residential school in Nalgonda were rescued after flooding.

Rail traffic was disrupted due to waterlogging at Dornakal station in Mahabubabad, leading to train cancellations and diversions.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reviewed the situation with officials as visuals showed severe flooding in several areas, including a truck being swept away in Khammam.

Heavy rain with gale lashed Vijayawada city on Wednesday morning and a number of trees uprooted and many roads were inundated after severe cyclonic storm Montha crossed Andhra Pradesh coast near Narasapur in West Godavari district, south of Kakinada overnight, IMD said on Wednesday.

After crossing the coast, the weather system moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during the past six hours to weaken into a cyclonic storm, India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin issued at 5 am said.

"The latest observations indicate that the severe cyclonic storm Montha crossed Andhra Pradesh and Yanan coasts between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, south of Kakinada and close to Narsapur during midnight (11:30 pm of October 28 and 12:30 am of October 29)," IMD said in a release.

Rain lashed several parts of Odisha, including the state's capital Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday as severe cyclone 'Montha' weakened into a cyclonic storm and was moving through neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, IMD said.

Several incidents of landslides, uprooting of trees, and damage to houses have been reported from various districts, an official at the Special Relief Commissioner's office said.

Light-to-moderate rain with wind speed ranging from 30 kmph to 40 kmph was recorded across the coastal belt, including Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts, in the state, the IMD bulletin said.

The maximum of 105 mm rainfall has been recorded in Mayurbhanj district, followed by 93.5 mm in Balasore, 90 mm in Khurda and 74.4 mm in Chandbali, the bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Centre (IMD) said.

Rains lashed different districts of Telangana on Wednesday under the impact of severe cyclonic storm Montha, which crossed the coast in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh overnight.

In Telangana, Warangal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, Nalgonda were among the districts that witnessed downpour, with rain lashing Hyderabad also.

Kalleda in Warangal and Addagudur in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri received rainfall of 91 mm during 8.30 AM to 11 AM, the Telangana Development Planning Society said.

The Met Centre of IMD issued a red alert from 10 AM of Wednesday to 8.30 AM of October 30 with warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) very likely to occur at isolated places in Jangaon, Hanumakonda and Warangal districts.

Cyclone Montha Tracker LIVE Updates: Cyclone impacts 22 districts, Andhra government sets up facilities

The cyclone impacted 403 mandals across 22 districts, prompting the state government to set up 488 control rooms at the mandal level. Nearly 76,000 people have been shifted to relief camps, and 219 medical camps have been set up at various locations, according to the Andhra Pradesh CMO.

To ensure uninterrupted emergency communication, 81 wireless towers and 21 large lamps have been installed. The government has also kept 1,447 earthmovers, 321 drones, and 1,040 chainsaws ready to clear uprooted trees. As part of preparedness measures, 3.6 crore alert messages have been disseminated to residents across the state. The government has also arranged 865 tonnes of animal fodder.
