TDP MLA held on charges of molestation of girls

Andhra Pradesh Police arrested TDP legislator T V Rama Rao on charges of harassing girl students.

Andhra Pradesh Police arrested TDP legislator T V Rama Rao on charges of harassing girl students of a nursing institute being run by him in his native West Godavari district.

A team of CB-CID personnel, led by DSP Gopal Raju, went to the residence of Rama Rao at Kovvur in West Godavari and took him into custody, district SP B Balakrishna said.

The CB-CID,probing into the allegations that Rama Rao had made attempts to outrage the modesty of some nursing students in the institute, booked a case against him under relevant Sections of IPC like punishment for wrongful restraint (Section 341),criminal intimidation (Section 506),assault or criminal force to a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty (Section 354),Balakrishna said.

The Telugu Desam Party had alleged that the case against its legislator was politically motivated as no girl in the institute or their parents complained to the police till June 19. However,on June 19,a dalit rights activist complained to police about allegations of rape at the nursing institute.

The TDP leaders then met Governor N D Tiwari and Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy demanding that the state Government end the ‘political vendetta’ against Rama Rao.
