Police challenge bail granted to Nooriya Haveliwala

The police approached the sessions court challenging the bail granted to Nooriya Haveliwala, accused of mowing down two persons.

The police today approached the sessions court challenging the bail granted to Nooriya Haveliwala, accused of mowing down two persons allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Nooriya was granted bail on March 31 by a metropolitan magistrate court on a surety of Rs 15,000 after the police failed to file a chargesheet in the case within the stipulated 60-day period.

The police while challenging the bail in the sessions court have said it was a serious offence and since Nooriya is an influential person she might try to tamper with the evidence.

Two persons, including a traffic police sub-inspector were killed when Haveliwala’s car went out of control along Marine Lines on January 30 this year. Police alleged that she was drunk at the time.

Four traffic police constables were also injured.
