Owner of brothel held for torturing woman over money

Two others, identified only as Alam and Afzal, are wanted in the case.

The Bhiwandi police have arrested a woman who runs a brothel for allegedly slashing the breasts of a 23-year-old woman during an argument over money. Two men, who allegedly helped the suspect, are absconding.

Police identified the suspect as Ruby Munshi (48). The incident happened last week but was reported to police Friday.

“The victim was brought to Mumbai recently and sold to Munshi for Rs 30,000. The victim told police that last week, following an argument, Munshi slashed her breasts with a razor and also branded her using a hot iron rod. She first tried to heal the injuries at home but later got admitted to a hospital in Bhiwandi,” said inspector R H Saste.

Munshi was produced in court Saturday and remanded in police custody till March 25, police said.

Two others, identified only as Alam and Afzal, are wanted in the case.

“Alam brought the victim to Mumbai from Surat. Afzal is a local associate of Munshi. We are on the lookout for them. We will soon record a detailed statement of the victim,” Saste added.
