Industrialist Atul Kumar sent to judicial custody for rape

Panchkula industrialist,Atul Kumar,a resident of Sector 11,who was arrested on charges of rape on Wednesday,was sent to judicial custody on Thursday.

A 27-year-old Mohali woman,who claimed to be a struggling TV actress had lodged a complaint,on October 27, with police alleging that she was drugged and raped by the industrialist near Morni. Four days after the complaint was made,she recorded her statement in the Court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

In her complaint to the police,the woman claimed that Atul had offered her a soft drink laced with sedative which made her unconscious and then raped her in his Alto car near Morni. “Atul had offered me to help in getting roles in some films as he knew some directors,” she said in her complaint.

Soon after the compliant,police questioned Atul,who denied knowing the victim. “We arrested the accused on Wednesday,immediately after we got a report from the forensic department,” said the investigative officer,Sub-Inspector,Malkeet Singh. A case was registered against Atul under section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) IPC.
