Creative agency moves HC against producers of serial ‘Ishq’

Magic Lantern Productions, which claims to have conceptualised the serial 'Ishq' (on Color channel),moved the Bombay High Court against its producer Creative Eye.

Magic Lantern Productions, which claims to have conceptualised the serial ‘Ishq’ (on Color channel),on Wednesday moved the Bombay High Court against its producer Creative Eye,seeking a stay on the broadcast.

MLP contends that it provided the storyline and the script for 260 episodes of the serial, airing of which began from December 28,but now Creative Eye is trying to deny it the credit by summarily terminating the agreement.

“We are asking for a stay to the airing pending the the arbitration. We also want them to give us credit as long as it is on air,” said advocate Jamshed Mistry,MLP’s lawyer.

Court is likely to hear the case on January 1.

According to MLP,Rajita Sharma, one of its partners, conceptualised the story which revolves around the love affair between a Brahmin boy and a Kayastha girl, set in Lucknow.

MLP entered into agreement with Creative Eye for the use of the script for a serial in October this year. Creative Eye was to jointly produce the serial with Viacom 18.

It was also agreed that MLP will share credits for script/dialogue as well as creative direction for the whole serial. But on December 21,Creative Eye sent termination notice to MLP,saying that latter will get credit for creative direction only in the first five episodes, and that for writing only in the first 12 episodes.
