Expressing concern that 1.14 lakh people were killed in road accidents annually in the country,a Congress member in Lok Sabha today made a strong plea for stringent laws to curb drunken and negligent driving.

Observing that 30 lives were lost in road accidents on a daily basis,Adhir Chowdhury said the annual figure was 1,14,590 which was “much more than those killed in natural disasters, insurgency or terror strikes”.
