Army probes officer’s death in accidental firing

The officer,who belong to Sikar district in Rajasthan,apparently died after accidental firing from his own weapon at the field range. Officials said that while foul play has been ruled out,an inquiry has been ordered to bring out the sequence of events. 

An Army officer in Srinagar said that the accident took place while the Special Forces unit was practising for an operation after it received hard intelligence on possible militant activity. “The unit was getting ready to go for an operation based on information it had received about some militant activity. Prior to the operation,a rehearsal of the ambush was being conducted,” the officer said. 

The unit was using live ammunition,and was scheduled to move at short notice,the officer said.
