Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor landed in fresh controversy on Sunday, following his social media jibe over the alleged NEET and NET paper leaks in Uttar Pradesh. Tharoor shared a viral post which showed a sheet with the question, "Uttar Pradesh kise kehte hain (How do we define Uttar Pradesh)?" शानदार! #परीक्षापेचार्चा pic.twitter.com/xXK8q54FWl — Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) June 22, 2024 The answer read, "Woh pradesh jahan pariksha se pehle uttar pata chal jaye use Uttar Pradesh kehte hain (The state where the answers are known before the exams is called Uttar Pradesh)." Referring to Tharoor as a "self entitled global citizen", former union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the post was a part of "shameless crass politics of shaming other fellow Indians". Shameless crass politics of shaming other fellow Indians - thats the Congress way, ably demonstrated by this self-titled Global citizen.🤬🤮 It was just a few months ago, another of Cong "global citizens" Pitroda described Indians as Africans, Chinese, Middle eastern etc Runs… — Rajeev Chandrasekhar 🇮🇳 (@RajeevRC_X) June 23, 2024 Likening the post to Sam Pitroda's remarks, Chandrasekhar said that it was just a few months ago that "another of Cong's 'global citizens'" had "described Indians as Africans, Chinese, Middle eastern etc". Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the three-time MP "frequently indulges in satirizing various cultures (first Northeast and now UP) with remarkably caustic words". "He has succumbed to the beguiling whispers of lunacy, his mind adrift in the ethereal mists of derangement," Sarma added, in what seemed to be an imitation of Tharoor's style of speech. Questioning whether the Congress and the Samajwadi Party would take action against Tharoor, BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said that the Thiruvananthapuram MP-elect had "insulted Land of Shri Ram & Shri Krishna - Uttar Pradesh with his tweet". Former union minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said that Tharoor had resorted to "frivolity", adding that the Congress leader was condemning the people of an entire state. "You don’t see UP as yours, since you are deriding it," the Rajasthan minister wrote in a post on X.
