Addressing the media at Nilambur in Malappuram, Anvar said he would not attend the CPI(M)’s parliamentary party meeting, nor would he step down as the legislator. (Express Archives) Upping the ante in his fight against the CPI(M), party-backed independent legislator P V Anvar on Thursday said Pinarayi VIjayan will be the last chief minister of the party.
Addressing the media at Nilambur in Malappuram, Anvar said he would not attend the CPI(M)’s parliamentary party meeting, nor would he step down as the legislator. “Party workers are with me and I will not abandon them. Leaders who are committed to the people support me. I will not attend the parliamentary party meeting of CPI(M). I am not going to any party. I will address the people on Sunday,’’ he said.
The two-time legislator mounted a scathing attack on Vijayan and his political secretary P Sasi, days after the CPI(M) asked him to correct his approach of “serving weapons” to rivals.
Anvar said no one can speak out in the party. “Everyone is silenced. Even party state secretary M V Govindan is afraid to speak. You can imagine the situation of ordinary workers. Everyone is a slave in the party. There is no communism in the party. Why is the chief minister holding Sasi so close to him? If things are going like this, Pinarayi Vijayan will be the last chief minister of the CPI(M). I want the party to survive here. Let the comrades think whether the party in Kerala is meant only for Muhammed Riyas(Public works minister and son-in-law of Vijayan) or not. The Chief Minister’s office is sitting on a volcano,’’ he said.
The two-time legislator, once a darling of the CPI(M), had last month unleashed a political storm raising serious allegations against P Sasi and The Additional Director General of Police (law and secretary) M R Ajith Kumar on matters related to the Home Department, under Vijayan. The issue was later magnified by the Congress-led Opposition targeting Vijayan for shielding the senior IPS officer who had held meetings with national RSS leaders.
The party as well as the chief minister had rejected Anvar’s demand to shunt out Sasi and Kumar. The party state secretariat, on Wednesday, had attested Vijayan’s stand that Anvar’s allegations had to be rejected with contempt and did not deserve any examination.
“I challenge Vijayan to order a judicial probe into the allegations I had raised (regarding looting of smuggled gold seized by police). He is just reading a handout from the ADGP. Vijayan has been a flaming sun. But now he is a sun that has set. His graph has plummeted from 100 to zero,’’ he said.
Referring to Vijayan’s insinuation that Anvar was speaking for smugglers, the party-backed legislator said, “His statement saying that I glorified smugglers has damaged me. The CM made me a culprit. I expected the party to correct him, but that did not happen. I have lost hope in the party. Party cadres and minorities are not getting justice from police. When I met the chief minister, I felt he was helpless. That wild thief Sasi is spoiling the chief minister. He should relinquish the home department,’’ he said.
