While the motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, the police have registered a case and arrested Dhanajoy. A sub-inspector of the Manipur Police was shot dead by a constable on Saturday in Jiribam district.
Official sources said the incident occurred around 10 am at the Mongbung post in Jiribam district.
The victim has been identified as Md Sahajahan, post commander of Mongbung outpost, and the accused constable is Akoijam Dhananjoy.
Sources said Dhananjoy, under the influence of alcohol, shot Sahajahan using a .303 rifle. Sahajahan, who received a bullet injury in his chest, was rushed to the district hospital but was declared dead.
