Constable shoots dead sub-inspector in Manipur’s Jiribam district

The victim has been identified as Md Sahajahan, post commander of Mongbung outpost, and the accused constable is Akoijam Dhananjoy.

Sources said Dhananjoy, under the influence of alcohol, shot Sahajahan using a .303 rifle. Sahajahan, who received a bullet injury in his chest, was rushed to the district hospital but was declared dead.

While the motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, the police have registered a case and arrested Dhanajoy.

The Monbung Meitei village, which is about 7 km from the district headquarters, was marred by violence in recent times with constant reports of firing between Meiteis and Kukis.
