Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses a public meeting ahead of Jharkhand Assembly elections, in Bokaro district, Jharkhand, Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024. (PTI Photo)Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Congress alleging that the party does not like tribal people in positions of power.
Addressing a rally in Jharkhand’s Gumla, he stated that the party has insulted President Droupadi Murmu and ex-Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and is pitting the sub-castes against one another with an agenda to weaken tribal unity. “Munda against Oraon, Lohra against Kharia, Kharwar against Korwa,” he said.
Calling out the ‘shahi parivar’ for breaking the backward communities, Modi said Congress wants to snatch reservations. “Modi will not allow plunder of people’s money, those who looted it will spend their lives in jail,” he added.
He went on to accuse the JMM-led coalition of looting the state’s rich resources such as minerals, forest, sand and coal, and putting ‘Roti-Beti-Mati’ (bread, land and daughter) at grave threat along with fuelling illegal immigration.
Modi’s accusations were in line with his speech in Maharashtra on Saturday, where he alleged that the grand old party could not accept an OBC prime minister. “Congress hates the OBCs because it cannot digest the fact that an OBC is the prime minister for ten years and working by taking everyone along,” he said in Nanded.
While speaking in Jharkhand’s Gumla, he assured an expenditure of Rs 80,000 crore for the development of 7,000 tribal villages across India. The PM also announced November 15 to be celebrated as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh’ for one year across the country in honour of tribal icon Birsa Munda.
