Persisting with its demand for an apology and resignation from Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks in Rajya Sabha on Dr B R Ambedkar, the Congress on Saturday announced that its agitation on the issue will continue and on December 22-23, party MPs, senior leaders and CWC members will hold press conferences in 150 cities. The party also said that the coming week will be marked by it as “Dr Ambedkar Samman Saptah”. Congress MP and general secretary in-charge for organisation K C Venugopal said that the party’s “agitation demanding Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation will continue”. “We will fight to protect Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s legacy against the Manusmriti worshippers,” he said. “All INC MPs, Senior Leaders & CWC members will hold press conferences in their constituencies and home districts across the country on 22-23 December,” said Venugopal. “On 24 December, across the country, we will hold Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman Marches and submit a memorandum to the President of India through District Collectors demanding Amit Shah’s resignation,” he added. “All INC workers will garland Babsaheb’s statues, hold his giant portrait at the front of the March and carry huge placards with our key demands,” said the Congress leader in a post on X. Venugopal also announced that on December 26-27, the party will hold an extended CWC session and a Mega Rally in Belagavi where it “will reiterate our commitment to Dr Ambedkar and his ideals”.
