A jawan from the CRPF's elite CoBRA unit sustained injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxals exploded in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Saturday, reported news agency PTI. According to officials, the incident occurred when a team from the 206th battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) had set out from the Pujari Kanker camp for an area domination exercise under the Usoor police station limits. While the team was conducting a cordon operation in the forest, one of the commandos accidentally triggered the hidden explosive, resulting in minor injuries. The injured jawan was immediately moved to a medical facility and is reported to be out of danger, an official was quoted as saying by PTI. Security forces frequently encounter such threats in the Bastar region, which includes seven districts like Bijapur. Maoists are known to plant IEDs along roads and forest paths to ambush patrolling teams. Civilians have also been victims of these hidden explosives in the past. Just two days ago, a young boy was injured in a similar explosion in Bijapur’s Gangaloor area, officials said.
