Police said six challans had previously been issued to the vehicle for overspeeding. PTI reported the police as saying that the car had an MLA sticker pasted on the windshield, which is being verified.

SHO Dharam Singh said, “We have detained the minor, and an investigation is ongoing. The boy is only 14 years old, so provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act will be followed, and he will be presented before the court. We are also trying to trace the owner of the vehicle who gave the car to the minor, and a case will be registered against him too.”

According to the police, during the procession, policemen signalled for the vehicle to stop speeding but the driver did not stop in time.
