BSF jawan sustains bullet injury from service weapon in Tripura’s Gomati district, inquiry underway

The injured BSF jawan was shifted to the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) hospital in Agartala as his condition continued to be critical.

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained a bullet injury allegedly from his own service weapon at Amritpara BSF border outpost in Gomati district of Tripura on Monday.

The injured jawan has been identified as Moni Kunda, 24.

Preliminary reports claimed that he sustained a bullet injury on the left side of his chest and was first taken to the nearby Natunbazar hospital. The doctors there referred him to the Gomati district hospital, and later he was shifted to the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) hospital in Agartala as his condition continued to be critical.

The BSF has initiated an internal inquiry to determine the exact reason behind the bullet injury.

In August 2021, just 24 hours after two BSF personnel were killed in an ambush by outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) ultras in Dhalai district, a BSF jawan was found dead with a bullet injury from his service rifle.

In May 2019, a BSF official was found dead in the Pancharatan area of Dhalai district, 150 km from Agartala, with bullet injuries from his service rifle. In April 2019, a BSF constable of 166 Battalion, posted in North Tripura, went on a shooting spree and later killed himself by firing from his service rifle.
