Pakistan Rangers reportedly released a photograph of the jawan with his eyes blindfolded.
The jawan, identified as P K Singh, hails from the Hooghly district in West Bengal and was recently transferred to this area.
As per information, two BSF jawans had been deployed at Jaloke post, where farmers were harvesting crops across the barbed wire fence (still within Indian territory). BSF sources confirmed they are in touch with the Pakistan Rangers to secure the release of Singh.
It is important to note that farmers in the region have agricultural land located across the barbed wire fence, but still within Indian territory. They are permitted to work in these fields during fixed hours under BSF supervision. BSF jawans deployed for this duty are known as Kisan Guards.
The designated hours for farmers to access their fields during summer are from 9 am to 5 pm.
At the time of the incident, Singh was carrying an AK-47 rifle and a water bottle, sources said. The incident took place near BSF fencing gate number 208/1, in the Mamdot sector of Ferozepur.
Sources added that BSF had called for a flag meeting with Pakistan Rangers on Thursday morning, but the latter did not turn up. Meanwhile, heavy BSF deployment was seen in the Mamdot block of Ferozepur on Thursday.
Parkash Singh, former sarpanch of Hussainiwala village, said, “Yes, we have heard that one BSF personnel accidentally crossed the border while escorting farmers as a Kisan Guard. I believe BSF is actively pursuing the matter with Pakistan Rangers.”
