Days after its women personnel thwarted a major smuggling attempt in Sepahijala district, the Border Security Force foiled smuggling and infiltration attempts in Tripura on the intervening night between Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.

Speaking to reporters, a BSF officer said that personnel from border outposts under the Sonamura and Boxanagar police station limits in Sepahijala fired six rounds of non-lethal ammunition at smugglers attempting to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border and seized a large consignment of sugar, narcotics and other contraband.

The second incident was a joint operation of the Tripura State Rifles, local police and the BSF at Jumia Colony under the Bogabil border outpost area in Khowai district, in which security personnel rescued six cattle that were loaded onto a vehicle, to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
