The Madhya Pradesh Police started an investigation after a BJP worker in Mandsaur was found killed in his bed, officers said Friday.

Shyamlal Dhakad (45) was the vice president of the BJP’s Budha Mandal in the Malhargarh Assembly constituency, which is represented by Deputy Chief Minister and four-time MLA Jagdish Devda.

Dhakad was found dead by his son when he went to his father’s room, built on the terrace of their house, to give him tea.

Mandsaur SP Abhishek Anand said the deceased was likely repeatedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon, “causing multiple wounds, leading to his death”. The autopsy report is awaited, he said. Police suspect that the assassin gained entry into Dhakad’s room through a shed that was had been constructed on the premises of his house.
