With the Supreme Court on Wednesday refusing to entertain a petition filed by 14 political parties, accusing the Centre of misusing central investigative agencies, the BJP hailed the decision and asked opposition parties to “cooperate with the probe against the corrupt”.

While Union minister Anurag Thakur said this has “exposed” the opposition parties and accused the Congress of “leading the corrupt”, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that the “corrupt have united against honest Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.

“Investigative agencies have the right to take action against the corrupt. When there is action against the corrupt, they (Opposition) take out protests on the streets and in Parliament,” Thakur said.

“There is an attempt from all the corrupt to come together on one platform. They should cooperate… (but) instead of cooperating with the agencies they went to court,” he told reporters.

Lauding the Supreme Court order, Bhatia addressing the media at the BJP office, said the court refused to entertain the petition saying that law is the same for every citizen, and that leaders are like common people before the law. “Under the UPA (government), CBI was called a caged parrot. Today’s move by the apex court has made it clear that there is no truth in the allegation by corrupt Opposition leaders about the agencies and that these agencies are doing their job honestly and on the basis of facts,” Bhatia said.

“If any corrupt leader has this misconception that they will get away, they should know that it is not possible under the Modi government. You will go to jail and your illicit assets will be seized,” Bhatia said.

He alleged that leaders of the parties that had moved the corruption by leaders of parties like the Congress, RJD, Aam Aadmi Party and DMK among the 14 opposition parties which had moved the apex court. These Opposition leaders did not go to the Supreme Court with their individual cases because they knew it would expose them, Bhatia claimed.
