After Delhi, earthquake of magnitude 4 hits Bihar

Bihar Earthquake Today: Hours after strong tremors were felt in Delhi NCR, an earthquake of magnitude 4 struck Bihar.

Tremors were felt at around 8.27 am on Monday, and it originated from just 10 km under the Earth’s surface. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.

According to the National Centre of Seismology, the epicentre of the quake was in Bihar’s Siwan district.

This comes just three hours after a shallow earthquake of 4 magnitude hit Delhi on Monday morning, at around 5.36 am. The depth of the earthquake in Delhi was just 5 km, making the national capital more prone to damage.

Shallow earthquakes, originating five or ten km below the surface, tend to cause more damage than those originating deep below the surface.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people in Delhi and nearby areas to stay calm and follow safety precautions while keeping alert for possible aftershocks.

The Prime Minister posted on X, “Modi said in a post on X, “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.”

Other political leaders in the national capital also flagged concern regarding the shallow earthquake.

Acting Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and former CM Arvind Kejriwal prayed for the safety of people, urging them to remain on alert for any possible aftershocks.
