The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina and five others for “derogatory and racist” remarks on ‘India’s Got Latent’, a show hosted by Raina.
“NCW takes serious note of derogatory & racist remarks made on ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has issued summons to Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, Ashish Chanchlani, Tushar Poojari & Saurabh Bothra for a personal hearing on Feb 17, 2025, at NCW office, New Delhi,” the NCW said.
Allahbadia, a YouTuber known for his channel BeerBiceps, was recently a guest on Raina’s show along with other content creators – Jaspreet Singh, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija.
The Mumbai Police said on Tuesday that it has called Allahbadia and Raina for an inquiry, after a complaint alleging obscene comments were made on the show. On Monday, the Assam Police had registered an FIR against five people including Allahbadia and Raina, after a complaint that said the remarks caused harm to public decency. The Maharashtra Cyber Police on Tuesday also registered an FIR in the case. The Indore police also began an investigation on Tuesday after a complaint against Allahbadia.
After his remarks on Raina’s show were criticised as being vulgar and obscene, Allahbadia apologised in a video, saying: “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry. I am here to take responsibility and extend my apologies. Personally, I had a lapse in judgment. What I said was not acceptable.”
