BAPS Swaminarayan Temple vandalised in New York; Indian Consulate alerts US officials

The Consulate General of India in New York has strongly condemned the vandalisation of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple which is located in Melville, New York.

The consulate has informed the US law enforcement agencies for an immediate action against the perpetrators of the “heinous act”.


In an official statement posted on social media platform X, the Consulate General of India in New York called the vandalism “unacceptable” and informed that the consulate is in touch with the community.

The Indian consulate, in a post on X, said “The vandalism of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Melville, New York, is unacceptable; The Consulate General of India in New York is in touch with the community and has raised the matter with U.S. law enforcement authorities for prompt action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.”

The Hindu American Foundation has called the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security to open an investigation into the vandalisation of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in New York.

Earlier in July, the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Edmonton, Canada was “defaced with anti-India graffiti and slurs”. The attack was condemned by the Indian-origin Canadian MP Chandra Arya.

Arya posted on X, “During the last few years, Hindu temples in the Greater Toronto Area, British Columbia, and other places in Canada being vandalised with hateful graffiti.”
