Krishna Janmashtami Bank Holiday Today 2025: Public-sector banks (PSBs) and private banking institutions will be closed today, on Saturday, August 16, on account of Krishna Janmashtami, as designated in the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) 2025 holiday calendar.
Janmashtami is a widely celebrated Hindu festival which commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna. This year marks the 5252nd birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, with Dahi Handi falling on the same day.
Bank holidays in India are designated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Negotiable Instruments Act, including holidays for Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) as well as various regional and national holidays.
Additionally, there are mandatory weekly days off, which occur on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month. There is a total of 15 bank holidays designated for August 2025, according to the RBI calendar for the year 2025.
It’s important to note that banks in only one Indian city will observe closure, and the remaining will be operational as usual. Below is the table of bank status for today, Saturday, August 16, 2025:

On August 16, 2025, banks are closed in Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar, and Vijayawada; banks in the rest of the cities will be operational, as usual.
