Twelve Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Teliamura in Tripura’s Khowai district on Friday.
The group, which included four women and four children, was spotted during a routine check conducted jointly by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Teliamura railway station.
A preliminary probe has revealed that the group entered India with the help of a Bangladeshi tout through either Silacherri or Karbook in the Gomati district recently and spent the night in a forested area before reaching the Teliamura railway station. The tout could not be nabbed as he fled after seeing the GRP-BSF contingent.
“The Bangladeshis were supposed to go outside the state in search of work. They will be forwarded to a local court today,” said a GRP official.

Notably, several Bangladeshis and Rohingya people have been arrested in Agartala and other parts of Tripura in the last few months while they were trying to board trains to other states.
In the wake of a purported increase in illegal infiltration, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha held a meeting with the BSF top brass in Agartala in July and asked them to maintain tight vigil across the India-Bangladesh international border.
Tripura shares an 856 km-long international border with Bangladesh, parts of which are still unfenced.
