Amid escalation of public unrest in Bangladesh, Air India Monday announced the suspension of all flight operations to and from Bangladesh with immediate effect.

“In view of the emerging situation in Bangladesh, we have cancelled the scheduled operation of our flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect. We are continuously monitoring the situation and are extending support to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Dhaka with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges. Safety of our guests and crew remains our foremost priority,” the flight operator posted on X.

The company asked its passengers to contact on their 24/7 Contact Centre at 011-69329333 / 011-69329999.

Bangladesh continues to boil after fresh clashes broke out between anti-government protesters and the police, killing nearly 100 people on Sunday. As people poured out on streets on Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post and fled to India.

Protesters were seen entering the Prime Minister’s official residence in Dhakaand vandalising statues of Hasina’s father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first President of Bangladesh.

In a televised address, the Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman said they will be forming an interim government with the help of political parties.
