Ayodhya verdict: VHP cancels two major events across Uttar Pradesh

“As the Supreme Court verdict is expected soon, organising Ekal Kumbh could be a challenging task. To avoid any unwanted situation, the event has been cancelled after discussion with the administration,” said an RSS functionary from the Awadh region.

One of the events the VHP has cancelled is a 10-day training camp for its women’s wing Durga Vahini, scheduled in Ayodhya from November 4 to 14.

With the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Ayodhya case expected soon, RSS affiliate VHP has cancelled two major events in Ayodhya and Lucknow. The verdict in the case is expected before Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi retires on November 17.

The other event to be cancelled is Ekal Kumbh, an annual conference of volunteers of VHP and other RSS affiliates who run Ekal Vidyalaya in different parts of the country, especially in remote forest and tribal-dominated areas.  The Ekal Kumbh was scheduled to be held from November 15 to 17 in Lucknow. The VHP was expecting a gathering of nearly 1 lakh for Ekal Kumbh.

“As the Supreme Court verdict is expected soon, organising Ekal Kumbh could be a challenging task. To avoid any unwanted situation, the event has been cancelled after discussion with the administration,” said an RSS functionary from the Awadh region.

“All functionaries have been asked to cooperate with local administrations and avoid any act or statement which may land them in legal trouble…” he said.

“All major programmes of VHP have been dropped. And everyone has been asked to remain stationed at their respective places. It has been told that whatever be the judgment, maintaining peace and harmony is the priority. If the judgment comes completely in our favour, then also it should be not be seen as our victory and the defeat of others,” said Alok Kumar, VHP’s international working president.
