Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Council of ministers for a third term of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, outgoing Union ministers Anurag Thakur and Rajeev Chandrasekhar said they will continue to contribute to and work for the BJP.
With his name not on the new NDA government’s list of ministers, Thakur said Sunday he would contribute to fulfilling PM-designate Narendra Modi’s mssion to make India a developed country. Congratulating Modi and his “team of ministers”, he said all the leaders chosen for ministerial posts in the new government are “very competent”. They will put in “every possible effort” for the progress of the country, Thakur said.
Thakur, who served as the Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Minister of Information and Broadcasting, in the Modi 2.0 government, won the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls and was re-elected to the lower house of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur.
“I am a party worker first. The people of Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh have elected me to the Lok Sabha for the fifth consecutive time. Being elected to the Lok Sabha for the fifth time is itself a great honour,” PTI quoted him as saying while replying to a question regarding whether he would be having some key responsibility in Himachal Pradesh as he is not being inducted into the new council of ministers in Modi 3.0 government.
“I worked as a party worker in the past and would continue to work as a party worker in the future. Our entire effort is to take India on the path of progress. All of us will walk together because India is important, the Modi government is important and the country’s progress is important,” PTI quoted him as saying.
Another outgoing minister in the second term of Modi government, Chandrasekhar echoed similar emotions as he said would continue to support and work in party as a BJP karyakarta.
Taking to X, he wrote: “Today marks the end of my 18 years long stint as an MP and my 3 years as Minister of State in the Council of Ministers under Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji.”

“My work and commitment to taking India forward and Thiruvanthapuram, as a karyakarta of BJP remains as relentless as before,” Chandrasekhar added.
Chandrasekhar, a Minister of State for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Ministry of Jal Shakti, in the previous term of the Modi government, lost to sitting Congress MP Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram seat in Kerala in the Lok Sabha polls 2024.
