Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu landed in New Delhi Friday with a long wish list, seeking central support for the state’s projects. During his two-day visit, he will have a series of meetings with Union ministers of Finance, Jal Shakti, Defence, and Electronics and IT. Naidu’s focus will be on centre-state coordination for infrastructure development, renewable energy, and water resource management.
Discussions on the implementation of new criminal laws and administrative preparedness, and participation in NITI Aayog’s Governing Council to present Andhra Pradesh’s policy roadmap are also on the cards. The chief minister is looking for funds for capital city Amaravati, Polavaram project and various other irrigation projects in the state, apart from investments in electronics and IT and the renewable energy sector.
A statement from Naidu’s office said that during this high-level visit, the chief minister will present the state’s development priorities and mobilise central support across critical sectors.
During his first meeting with Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi, Naidu submitted a proposal seeking rooftop solar capacity allocations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. He urged the Centre to expedite approvals for the proposal submitted by discoms in Andra Pradesh to the ministry in January this year, under which 20 lakh SC/ST households will receive free rooftop solar systems, and households belonging to backward classes will receive a Rs 10,000/kWp subsidy for up to 2kWp installations.
The state’s Clean Energy Policy 2024–29 targets an additional 72.6 GW of renewable energy, including 40 GWp solar power, and emphasises inclusive access and affordability. The proposed utility-led rooftop model will reduce Andhra’s power purchase costs, empower vulnerable communities, and drive job creation, the CM submitted.
Naidu will also meet Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss Andhra Pradesh’s strategic defence and aerospace initiatives. His meeting with C R Patil, Minister for Jal Shakti, will focus on water infrastructure and pending irrigation proposals.
