Amritsar train tragedy: Magisterial inquiry begins, 21 families get aid

He said, “Anyone who has any kind of information relevant to the accident can approach me in the office of Improvement Trust Amritsar between 11 am to 4 pm on October 25 and 29. Anyone can share information or submit documents regarding the accident. Any eyewitness who want to get his statement recorded or anyone who has any crucial information can approach me.”

“I will submit my probe report in four weeks,” said Purushartha.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Government Monday disbursed the compensation amount of Rs 5 lakh each to 21 families of the deceased who were killed in Amritsar rail tragedy happened on Dussehra festival.

In the first phase of the disbursal of compensation amount, today an event was held at circuit house Amritsar, in which total amount of Rs. 1 crore 5 lakh was disbursed to 21 families of the deceased.

Cheques were handed over by Brahm Mohindra, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Local Bodies Minister and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria in the presence of Sunil Jakhar, President Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Sunil Datti, MLA and other senior officers.

Mohindra claimed that although Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is presently abroad on official visit but he regularly takes stock of the situation by calling number of times in a day. He said that after the rail tragedy happened, the first task of the district administration was to take all the wounded persons to the hospital for urgent medical care. He said after this task was over, district administration worked day and night to console the victims’ families and they prepared a list of legal heirs of the deceased.

He said that families of 21 deceased were given the compensation of Rs 5 lakh each. He said that in the next two days compensation amount be disbursed to the remaining families of the victims.

“It is such a depressing time for the families of the victims and the Punjab government is standing rock solid with the aggrieved families, on the instruction of Chief Minister I am camping at Amritsar to personally monitor the relief and rehabilitation work,” said Mohindra.
