UNION HOME Minister Amit Shah on Thursday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He also reviewed the preparations of the G-20 meet, scheduled to be held in Srinagar in May and asked all agencies to work in a coordinated manner for the success of the event.
Shah was given a detailed presentation on the prevailing law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir by security officials of the central government and the Union Territory administration.
Those attending the meeting included National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, J&K Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, J&K DGP Dilbag Singh, Director (IB), RAW chief and other senior senior officials. “The situation along the Line of Control and the International Border, infiltration bids from across the border and attempts to target minority community members were discussed at the meeting,” an official said.
Shah reviewed the functioning of the security grid and various aspects related to security, the MHA said in a statement. The home minister reiterated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government is committed to “zero tolerance against terrorism”.
Shah also reviewed the area domination plan, zero terror plan, law and order situation, cases related to UAPA and other security-related issues. He appreciated the efforts of security agencies and J&K administration for substantial reduction in cross-border infiltration and improvement in law and order and also advised to strengthen the routine policing.
There were several targeted killings in J&K in previous years. The government had informed Parliament that as many as 118 civilians, including five Kashmiri Pandits and 16 Hindus and Sikhs, were killed in J&K between August 2019 (after the abrogation of Article 370) and July 2022.
