Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, reacting to an allegedly doctored video of him that was shared on social media handles of the Telangana Congress, said that Rahul Gandhi and his party were working to take politics in the country to a “new low”.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Shah said, “Their (Congress) frustration has reached to such a level that they have spread fake videos of me and several other BJP leaders. Chief Ministers, state president and others have also done the work of forwarding this fake video… Today, a prominent leader of the Congress party is facing a criminal offence. This action is indicative of their frustration and disappointment. Ever since Rahul Gandhi took charge of the Congress, he has been working to take the level of politics to a new low…”
Shah also condemned the video circulated by Congress leaders, alleging that it was an attempt to attract “public support.” “I believe that the attempt to get public support by circulating fake videos is condemnable and should never be done by any major party in Indian politics…,” Shah continued.

His remarks come a day after the Delhi Police summoned Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, while the Assam Police arrested a Congress worker from Guwahati after he had posted the video on X, and seized two of his mobile phones and his laptop.
According to an Indian Express report, while Shah has previously said the BJP would remove the 4 per cent reservation for Muslims that is in place in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the video being circulated was allegedly doctored using deepfake technology to make it seem like Shah was saying all reservations, including of SCs and STs, would be scrapped.
