Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in the Kashmir Valley on Monday evening and was received at the Srinagar International Airport by J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He had arrived in Jammu a day earlier, starting his first visit to J&K since the Union Territory got an elected government in October last year. After arriving in Srinagar, Shah drove to the residence of slain Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Humayun Muzamil Bhat to offer his condolences. Bhat, son of a retired inspector general of police, was killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir's Kokernag in September 2023. Shah was accompanied to Bhat's residence by CM Abdullah and senior government officials. From there, Shah was taken to Raj Bhavan. During his stay in Srinagar, Shah is expected to chair a security review meeting and also review the progress of various developmental projects. He is also expected to hold meeting with the Chief Minister as well as Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. A three-tier security system was in place in Srinagar. A large number of J&K Police and paramilitary personnel manned the roads while checkpoints were erected at several locations.
