During the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, TSR personnel were deployed in Bihar, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra. (File Photo)A senior Home Department official in Agartala recently said that over 400 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel would be deployed in the Bihar Assembly polls.
The jawans, led by commandant Jyotishman Daschoudhuri, headed for Patna on Friday night by a special train. They are expected to reach the Bihar capital by Sunday night or Monday morning.
“The Election Commission would consult the nodal security officers and decide where the TSR personnel would be deployed. They would be deployed to maintain security in both phases of polling,” said the official.
The Assembly polls in Bihar will be held in two phases – November 6 and 11, with the counting scheduled for November 14.
During the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, TSR personnel were deployed in Bihar, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Currently, there are 14 TSR battalions, a majority of which are India Reserve (IR) battalions, which can be deployed in any state under orders from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
As per the latest information, two TSR battalions have already been posted under the Delhi Police since 2019 and in the South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) of Chhattisgarh since 2022. One more TSR battalion is engaged in providing dedicated security to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s drilling sites in Tripura.
TSR was formed as per the Tripura State Rifles Act, 1983. The first battalion of the force came into existence on March 12, 1984. Tripura currently has 21,798 TSR jawans.
